DIY BEAUTY BUYS THAT REALLY WORK

My beauty philosophy has always revolved around establishing a regular routine that is results-driven, and doing as much DIY as possible along the way. Here are some favourites I’ve been enjoying during lockdown 2020.

First up, a cult classic - and the answer to the question:  Can you guess the ONE tool a facialist knows you’re using without even asking because it’s that good? It’s the:

  1. Top Tool: Clarisonic, $219, www.adorebeauty.com.au  I remember interviewing one of the inventors of the Clarisonic at launch and being gobsmacked. These guys invented the sonic toothbrush and then revolutionised the skincare industry in 2004 with their results-driven cleansing, exfoliating and all-round glow-getting sonic brush. It was initially designed for professional use before it made its way into our hands - and never left. It’s the original and best. I use it morning and night for a thorough cleanse and exfoliation, and it’s just a joy to use.

  2. Brow Booster: Rimmel Lash Accelerator, $22.95, www.chemistwarehouse.com.au  This shocked me only because I’ve tried so many and they cost a small fortune, but not this one and better still, it actually performs better than the pricey ones. The only stumbling block is you must not forget to apply it nightly, so I position it right next to my mouthguard. Consistency is key here and I do have better-looking brows after four weeks.

  3.  Wrinkle Smoother: Liar, $39.99, www.nourishedlife.com.au  I’ve never met a 100% natural roll-on eye serum that smoothes-out this overworked area so much so that you really see a difference. Bravo to the brains behind this product (she’s a super-smart mum of 4) I could list all the ingredients and what they do but all we really want to know is that it’s results-driven right?

  4. Brightener + Tightener: Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Skin Clay Mask, $76, www.charlottetilbury.com  A mask like no other in that I notice an immediate change to the look of my skin each and every time I use it.  Although it’s a clay mask, which is usually reserved for younger skin, this one leaves my face feel soft and dewy too.

  5. Dye Job: 1000 Hour Plant Extract Lash & Brow Dye Kit, $24.99, 1000hour.com.au A famous and fabulous brow expert once told me that I should be dying my own: “It’s fun, quick and inexpensive, darling!” she laughed and she was so right. This is the best one  - just don’t get overconfident and forget to set a timer. Foolproof if you follow the instructions, of course.
