Why you need to start Tightlining your 45+ eyes, pronto
Tightlining is a makeup artist technique of applying eyeliner which is particularly good for our older eyes as it instantly doubles the look of lashes.
Instead of applying eyeliner above your eyelashes -on top of the eyelid- tightlinging refers to applying eyeliner underneath the upper eyelid at the base of your eyelashes, right on the waterline.
I was introduced to the easy DIY trick by makeup artist Amanda Duque, while interviewing her in August for a national magazine story, and haven’t stopped ‘tightlining’ my eyes since.
If you have the beginnings of hooded eye, which occurs naturally with age, the technique prevents eyeliner transferring onto the lower brow bone, too.
It might feel uncomfortable the first time you try but it does get easier, and it’s best to use a waterproof pencil. Stand in front of the mirror and pull your eyelid up and line the underside of your eyelashes - really get in between each and every lash.
“It’s especially good for people with sparse lashes,’ says Amanda. “Sometimes you get those white gaps at the roots of your lashes, when you put your mascara on, and this technique fills them in, giving more definition at the base and making them appear fuller. ”
