3 life-changing tips from an aromatherapy guru

For more than a decade, aromatherapy Queen Pat Princi-Jones has been a leading educator in the self-care benefits of essential oils, in particular how to incorporate them easily into everyday life.

Earlier this year, the Melburnian released a visually stunning, hardcover manual “A Scented Life, Aromatherapy Reimagined’, an easy-access guide for not only beginners but dedicated lovers of the aromatic world,

Pat shared insight, and a few clever household tips via zoom, using her favourite Byron Bay-born essential oil brand, Oil Garden (a long time favourite of mine, too):

  1. Kitchen: At the end of a dishwasher cycle, open the door, add one drop of lemon [essential oil] and shut the door [quickly]. The heat explodes the molecule and there’ll be an incredible surge of clean, fresh lemon scent with antimicrobial properties.

  2. Laundry: When using the dryer - particularly for sheets, towels, dishcloths and tea towels -  add one drop of lavender and one drop of lemon onto a thick tissue and place it in the dryer with the items. It’ll give you a really uplifting, clean-scented result.

  3. Bathroom: If you have a cold, put one drop of eucalyptus oil on your chest before you step into the shower and slowly breathe in to clear your head.

Quick Blends:

Lemon + peppermint. Good for: sinus, hay fever, mental fatigue

Eucalyptus + Australian sandalwood. Good for: colds and flu

Clove Bud + cardamon (or cinnamon). Good for: cleaning

Tea tree + lavender. Good for: 1st Aid treatment

A wealth of information lies within the pages of Pat’s most beautiful and highly-recommended book. My favourite chapters include ‘Embracing midlife’ and ‘Ageing Well’:

If any of my content is in partnership with a beauty client I’ll tell you - full transparency is important to me. And I will only work with sponsors to promote products that I have personally tried and loved. If I don’t love it and believe it works for women 45+  I just won’t recommend it.”
