ARE YOU SHAMPOOING THE RIGHT WAY?

It’s a routine task we do most days without even thinking about it, but is there a better way? Hairstylist Aleks Abadia, from Esstudio Galleria, shares 5 common mistakes we had no idea we were making.

1: Rinsing with hot water. A cool temperature to rinse is much better for shine and stops colour fading. Now, we know it’s not easiest thing to do especially in the morning but trust me it does get easier. I suggest you start with tepid and work your way down to cold. It really does make a difference.

2: Using too much product. Putting excessive amounts of product in your hair and then not rinsing it out properly could leave you with a dry, flaky scalp. And more makes no difference (it just wastes money!).

3: Not doing the two-step. You need to always shampoo your hair twice. The first one loosens the grit and the second one cleans the hair.

4: Putting shampoo directly on your head. It’s best to apply shampoo onto damp hands first and lather up. Then apply it to wet hair, front, sides, crown and back of neck, and work it through.

5: Overdoing it. Try not to wash your hair every day as overwashing can dry out natural oils. Only treat your hair once a week or fortnightly – it’s more than enough – unless you’ve been advised differently by a professional.

DID YOU KNOW? They both have famously covetable hair, but the secret to Jennifer Aniston’s and Cindy Crawford’s lush locks is that they only wash them two to three times a week.

TOP TIP: In between washes use a dry shampoo to keep hair looking fresh – and give yourself a sleep in! We love the orignal and, still after all these years, the best: Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk, $14.99, klorane.com.au

NOTE: I’m not paid to endorse any of these products. I only recommend what I know really works.
